PLC Updates Several Key Policies

At the PLC meeting held last Sunday August 21st., the PLC decided to update a few policies. The most notable change is the addition of an "Early Bird" discount of $5 for signing up for an event 10 days or more in advance of the event. Several other fee policies surrounding partial attendance were also formalized.

Canoe Trip

On August 12 – 14, the Troop 84 scouts packed their bags and headed off to the Little Miami Canoe Rental in Oregonia, Ohio. When we got there we set up our tents and then ate a cracker barrel (Oatmeal Crème Pies) while we played card games; mostly Euchre and a new game called: Scum. Then we went to bed and woke up the next morning. For breakfast we had Cheerios and Pop Tarts with Sunny D and Bananas. Then we walked to the canoe rental and headed 8 miles up the river in a van. We had the rest of the day to canoe the 8 miles back up and be back.

Religious Award Classes

We will be holding classes for scouts interested in earning the Protestant Religious Awards for Scouting.

Classes for the God and Church award (grades 6-8) will be held from 8:30PM - 9:00PM following the regular Troop meetings. We will have a short introduction meeting following the 8/15/2016 Troop meeting and will begin sessions on 9/19/2016.

Classes for the God and Life award (grades 9-12) will be held from 8:30PM - 9:00PM following the regular Crew meetings. Our first session will be held on 8/22/2016.

Camp Falling Rock Summer 2016

On July 10 – July 16, Troop 84 packed their bags and headed off to the wonderful Camp Falling Rock to enjoy the week of summer camp. Each day the first year scouts would go to Brownsea, while the older scouts would earn merit badges. Liam, Abe, and I earned the Environmental Science merit badge; one of the hardest merit badges out there. Everyday we had delicious food and ate it all up. On Monday, everyone was settled in and had gotten blue cards for all of the merit badges they had wanted to do and started them.

Movie Making

On June 24 – June 26, Troop 84 went to… their own meeting place: Northside Fellowship, for the Movie Making Merit Badge Campout. Everyone there made short movies and showed them to the troop. One including Sam getting hit in the face multiple times with a toy broom. At the end they all watched The Force Awakens and had fun.

Darby Creek

On May 6 – May 8, Troop 84 went to Darby Creek for a great hike. They had lots of fun and it was the first campout that didn’t rain. I didn’t go so I don’t have too much info on this, but I was told it was a really fun campout for the Troop.

Final Summer Camp Preperations

Marcus Wuebker's picture

Hello scouts and parents of Troop 84! I have just a few reminders as we all get packed for tomorrow's departure to summer camp!

  • Please arrive at the church at 10:30am. If you are on the PLC, please be 10 minutes early! We need your help getting organized.
  • Please wear your Class A uniforms to the church. Scouts travel in style and we'll be getting some photos with the new trailer. If you were at the Moving Making Campout, bring your new patch!
  • To make the swim check process at camp go fast, have your swim trunks on under your clothes when you arrive at the church.
  • DON'T Forget your Med-Form! If you are behind on this you still have time to go to the "Little Clinic" at Kroger to get a sports/camp physical.
  • If you are in the OA, bring your sash! Wednesday will be OA day.
  • If you are in the crew and have a green class A, bring it. We will wear Venturing uniforms on Thursday.

Thanks and we'll see you all tomorrow!

Speeches at Moviemaking

At the Moviemaking event, I will be gettign a group together and be giving my five minute speech for the Communications merit badge. If anyone else would like to give a speech while there is a group to give it to, they can. Remember, this merit badge is required for Eagle, so you will have to do it eventually. The requirement, directly quoted from the requirements is:
