Many of you have the experience and knowledge to help scouts to earn a wide variety of Merit Badges!  It's a great way to get involved and use your knowledge and experience to help our scouts to advance. Keep the following in mind:

7.0.1.1 Qualifications of Counselors

People serving as merit badge counselors must maintain registration with the Boy Scouts of America as merit badge counselors and be approved by their local council advancement committee (or District Advancement Committee if authorized) for each of their badges. This includes those working at summer camp or in any other group instruction setting or providing web-based opportunities. See “Counselor Approvals and Limitations,” 7.0.1.4. There are no exceptions.

Here are some resources for becoming a Merit Badge Counselor:

  1. Read the Guide for Merit Badge Counseling - This will help to inform you of the responsibilities and qualifications
  2. Register with the Boy Scouts of America (position code 42) using the standard adult form - There is no cost for this registration
  3. Complete the newest Youth Protection Training and stay current on the cadence required
  4. Complete and Turn in the Merit Badge Counselor Application Form
  5. Read the Guide to Advancement
  6. Read the Guide to Safe Scouting
  7. Read and utilize the Merit Badge Worksheets
  8. Complete Merit Badge Counselor Training in the Online Learning Center
  9. Once complete, let me know and I will help you get the completed forms to District Advancement

There is a wealth of helpful information in the guides above.  Even the counselor application form is very informative!
